Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
