Condemnation Explodes as Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Fierce Rebuke

Personalities from across the partisan spectrum and the entertainment industry are coming together to censure Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Online Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Brentwood home, Trump posted on his platform to describe the late director as "anguished and struggling". In a message, he claimed Reiner's demise was "due to the hostility he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post then pivoted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Arrest

Police have since confirmed the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in relation to the case. It is reported his bond was set at a substantial amount.

A Torrent of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The reaction to Trump's words was swift and scathing.

“What a vile and vile statement,” remarked actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly criticized the statements. Goldberg referenced previous comments from Trump about political violence, demanding, "Do you have no decency? Can you get any worse?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "This is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "He is a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own demise because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from His Own Party

A number of GOP elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about politics or rivals". She also alluded to struggles with substance abuse and mental health within families.

Fellow Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disrespectful" considering the nature of the deaths. He publicly dared others in his party to defend the statements.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In a previous conversation, he argued Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule if Trump return to power.

"There is autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Despite his pointed criticisms, Reiner had previously shown "absolute horror" and denounced political violence unequivocally after the killing of another political figure.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Providing a element of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" while posing on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
