Followers Demand Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the pop star are calling for that a person who jumped a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though official papers showed that he was due to appear on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account includes videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another message on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Numerous of attendees had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, earning several for best costume and production design.
