Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
