Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
