The English Team to Launch Euro 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the anticipated qualification for a championship taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an England men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the England side for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, in the event of winning their group, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Kickoff and Rally

The tournament was unveiled at an event in central London on Wednesday night. Key representatives from Uefa and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the site by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The opening game of the European Championship will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a game that will feature the Dragons if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for European club finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help engage a broader range of audiences.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Venues and Elimination Phase

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a tournament for the followers and a showcase of everything we value about the football – its emotion and power to foster unity.”

In excess of three million passes, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be made available to supporters.
