The network's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
