Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic endures a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental collision with team-mate Jones.
His teammate stepped on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly fell to the floor holding his leg.
The 30-year-old, who leads the league season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game before suffering the setback.
Jokic will have an scan on the following day to assess the severity of the issue.
"Immediately, he knew he was hurt," said Denver coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who is injured, that's gut-wrenching, especially a player as important as he is. We will know more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Of course, at this moment, I'm more concerned primarily about him personally and the frustration of facing an event like that."
