Two Victims Identified in Brown University Attack as Authorities Continue Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the recent mass shooting in Providence were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer continued following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.
